Rehabilitation after Burns in the Sanatorium "Berezovy Gai"

Burns are considered complex and dangerous skin injuries. No matter what type of burn — thermal, chemical, electrical, or radiation — immediate first aid should be provided to the victim, followed by a call for professional medical help. The consequences of burns can be very serious. Only a qualified specialist can determine the depth of skin damage and prescribe an effective recovery course.

Degree and Symptoms of Burns

There are currently four recognized degrees of burns:

  1. 1st degree – redness of the skin, slight swelling, spontaneous healing within 3–5 days;
  2. 2nd degree – formation of large blisters, light yellow scabs; scarring may remain after healing;
  3. 3rd degree – damage to the skin and subcutaneous tissue, formation of black or dark blue scabs; self-healing is impossible;
  4. 4th degree – charring of the skin with damage extending to soft tissues, muscles, tendons, and even bones; self-healing is impossible.

If the injured person is elderly or has pre-existing conditions such as diabetes or immunodeficiency, the treatment becomes more complicated. Skin regeneration is only possible in cases of 1st-degree burns. In all other situations, complications are likely, making it essential to consult a surgeon.

The condition of a burn victim typically progresses through four stages: burn shock, acute toxemia, septic toxemia, and convalescence (recovery). Each stage is accompanied by specific disorders affecting various systems in the body.

Consequences of Burns

Complications caused by burns fall into two categories:

  • Local effects – scar formation at the site of injury due to infection; tight scabs can lead to local ischemia or respiratory issues. If the burn affects a joint, foot, hand, or perineal area, there may be functional limitations in the affected region;
  • Systemic complications – reduced blood circulation leading to metabolic disturbances, hypertension, kidney and liver failure. Burns also cause neurological disorders, fever, and general intoxication. The most severe consequence is "burnout" — extreme exhaustion that can end in death.

Treatment and Rehabilitation After Burns at the Sanatorium

In the convalescence phase, wounds heal, grafted skin grafts take hold, and internal organs gradually return to normal function. At this stage, undergoing a rehabilitation program is crucial for full recovery — not only of damaged skin areas but also of overall bodily health. It's highly recommended to undergo such a program at specialized centers equipped with modern technology.

One such facility is the “Berezoviy Gai” sanatorium, which offers a special post-burn recovery program. This includes:

  • Electrophoresis;
  • Galvanogly mud therapy;
  • Dry carbonic acid baths;
  • Laser-magnetic therapy;
  • Bioptron light therapy.
