Amplipulstherapy

Amplipulstherapy

Amplipulse therapy is one of the electrotherapy methods used in physiotherapy. It involves stimulating problem areas of the body using alternating current at a carrier frequency of 5000 Hz and low modulation frequencies — from 10 to 150 Hz. The main principle of this method is based on the use of sinusoidal modulated currents (SMC), also known as SMT. This type of current stimulates muscle tissue and activates neuron function.

One of the key features of amplipulse therapy is that it is completely painless and does not cause any discomfort — unlike some other electrotherapeutic procedures such as diadynamic therapy. This is due to the physical properties of SMC: the current easily penetrates through the skin without causing tingling or burning sensations.

Undergoing an Amplipulse Therapy Course

The procedure is carried out using a series of electric current oscillations set by the device in a specific sequence. The modulated current is delivered to the patient’s body via electrodes containing special hydrophilic pads soaked in liquid.

In this method, it is important that the size of the electrodes matches the affected area. They are strictly positioned over the site of inflammation. Once the device is turned on, the doctor gradually increases the intensity until the patient feels gentle, painless vibrations.

Sessions of amplipulse therapy are recommended daily or every other day. The duration increases progressively during the course — starting at 10 minutes and ending at 20–25 minutes per session. On average, a full course consists of 10–15 sessions. In the absence of contraindications or complications, the course can be repeated after 2–3 weeks.

Indications for Amplipulse Therapy

By applying various types of current modulation and their combinations, amplipulse therapy can effectively treat a wide range of conditions and pathologies, including:

  • Osteochondrosis and related problems (pain, radiculitis, limb numbness);
  • Spinal deformities;
  • Excess weight;
  • Cellulite;
  • Digestive system disorders (gastritis, ulcers, colitis, etc.);
  • Inflammatory processes in pelvic organs;
  • Lymphatic drainage issues and lymph stagnation;
  • Chronic bronchitis.

Amplipulse therapy produces several beneficial effects: cosmetic improvement, pain relief, reduced inflammation, and elimination of swelling. Compared to diadynamic therapy, it is preferred in pediatric practice because it causes no discomfort, pain, burning, or itching.

The primary therapeutic effect is achieved through enhanced lymph circulation, venous outflow, and arterial blood supply, all stimulated by SMT.

Contraindications for Amplipulse Therapy

Like any physiotherapeutic method, this procedure should only be prescribed by a physician who will make a diagnosis and determine which treatment is suitable and most effective for you. Contraindications for amplipulse therapy include:

  • Pacemaker implant;
  • Purulent inflammation;
  • Bleeding tendencies;
  • Blood diseases;
  • Epilepsy;
  • Any tumors or abnormal growths;
  • Increased sensitivity to electric current;
  • Gallstone or kidney stone disease.
