Electroplating mud therapy
Some people have heard about galvanotherapy — a form of electrotherapy — and most are familiar with the benefits of mud therapy. Combine these two therapeutic methods into one, and you get another effective physiotherapeutic technique that uses the positive effects of direct electric current and warm therapeutic mud on the human body.
The unique feature of this method is that it can be prescribed to patients who cannot undergo regular mud treatments, thanks to the combined effect of galvanic current and deep tissue penetration of mud ions.
Galvano-mud therapy provides a thermal effect and changes the structure of tissues and skin due to ion movement under the influence of electric current and the introduction of mud ions into the body.
How Galvano-Mud Therapy Is Conducted
This procedure follows the same principle as galvanization, but instead of hydrophilic pads commonly used in electrotherapy, mud compresses wrapped in gauze or cotton bags are applied. The mud is warmed in a water bath to 40°C, wrapped in cloth, and placed over the affected area of the body. Electrodes are positioned on top, covered with plastic film and a sand pad, and then connected to the device.
A single session lasts between 20–30 minutes, and a full course typically includes 10–15 procedures. Galvano-mud therapy is usually administered every other day or every three days.
Therapeutic Effects of Galvano-Mud Therapy
Mud applications improve local blood circulation, reduce inflammation, support tissue regeneration, and enhance metabolic processes.
Galvanization increases the effectiveness of mud therapy by helping its active ingredients penetrate deeper into the tissues through the use of low-voltage direct current.
Indications for Galvano-Mud Therapy
This treatment is widely used in medicine and is recommended for the following conditions:
- ENT diseases (rhinitis, sinusitis, etc.);
- Respiratory system disorders (chronic bronchitis, pneumonia);
- Musculoskeletal diseases (arthritis, arthrosis, osteochondrosis);
- Adhesions and post-surgical scars;
- Digestive tract disorders (gastritis, ulcers, colitis);
- Skin diseases;
- Inflammatory gynecological conditions;
- Diseases of the central and peripheral nervous systems.
Contraindications for Galvano-Mud Therapy
Like any medical treatment, galvano-mud therapy has contraindications. It should not be performed in cases of:
- Epilepsy;
- Active tuberculosis;
- Pregnancy;
- Individual intolerance to electric current;
- Malignant or benign tumors;
- Hyperthyroidism.
