Vacuum massage and its features

Vacuum massage and its features

Vacuum (cupping) massage is a procedure aimed at reducing subcutaneous fat layers — primarily in women — by using a special device that alternates pressure and suction on the treatment area.

Pressure fluctuations help reach the deepest layers of subcutaneous tissue, thereby enhancing blood flow and lymphatic drainage. This stimulates metabolic processes in the body. In addition, the oxygen delivered by the blood acts on lipid clusters, oxidizing them. As a hydrocarbon compound, fat eventually breaks down into end products — water and carbon dioxide — which are excreted from the body as simple compounds.

In addition, this procedure promotes the removal of toxins from tissues. Thus, it leads to the breakdown of cells known as cellulite — an enemy of every woman on the planet. The skin becomes smooth and soft, and body volume visibly decreases.

Device Structure and Procedure Description

The apparatus for performing this type of massage includes a special cup-shaped attachment (or multiple attachments), a compressor, and a pressure regulator.

Before starting the anti-cellulite vacuum cupping massage course, a diagnosis is performed:

  • Patient’s weight is measured;
  • Measurements of problem areas are taken;
  • Water, fat, and muscle content in the body is determined.

These data will help clearly demonstrate the effectiveness of the procedures in the fight against cellulite.

Each zone is massaged separately, starting with the abdomen, then moving sequentially to the surface of both thighs and sides. Then the patient is turned over, and the back surfaces of the thighs and buttocks are treated. If necessary, the back and shoulders can also be included in the session.

Before the massage begins, the specialist applies massage oil to the working area to ensure the cup glides smoothly across the skin without causing injury or stretching.

Next comes the warming-up phase involving stroking, kneading, and pinching movements. Each body part has its own specific set of motions developed for optimal effect. Only after this preparation should the device be used.

During the procedure, the cup moves across the body as if sucking the skin inward. Movements are straight, circular, zigzag, directed both toward and away from the lymph nodes. After approximately 10 minutes per zone, the therapist performs calming, gentle stroking of the skin surface.

Vacuum (cupping) massage is not a pleasant experience. It's difficult to relax or fall asleep during the session. Pain sensations occur during the process — the stronger they are, the lower the general muscle tone and the more advanced the stage of cellulite. However, after the first two to three minutes, and with each subsequent session, the pain diminishes. After the session, soreness may appear, and bruising is possible; the next session may feel uncomfortable due to residual effects. However, by the third session, the body adapts, and the pain becomes much less noticeable.

After the massage, therapeutic wraps are effective and recommended because warmed skin absorbs nutrients from masks, creams, and gels applied to it more efficiently. Today, cosmetology focuses on improving the overall condition of the body’s skin.

A typical treatment course is usually conducted 2–3 times per week and consists of 10–15 sessions, depending on initial measurements and goals.

Positive Effects

Despite the visible discomfort and need to tolerate some pain (which is quite bearable), vacuum massage is an excellent tool in the fight against cellulite. On average, patients lose 3 cm in circumference and one clothing size over the course of treatment. The body becomes well-toned and noticeably slimmer.

Oxygen-rich skin, along with sufficient nutrients, becomes elastic, soft, and velvety. In addition, this type of massage effectively tones muscles and softens tissues. Combined with a good mood, a positive outlook on life, and personal motivation, results become noticeable even after the first session.

Indications and Contraindications

The main indications for vacuum (cupping) massage include the desire to tone muscles, "energize" the body and tissue coverings with oxygen and nutrients. However, the primary reason remains the presence of “orange peel” skin (cellulite) and the desire to reduce problem areas in the abdomen, thighs, buttocks, and forearms — typical trouble zones for women.

Contraindications include cardiovascular diseases, swelling, inflammatory skin conditions, vascular thrombosis, varicose veins, and impaired musculoskeletal function.
