Treatment

Compatibility of procedures

Recommendation from the Chief Physician of the Sanatorium

The treatment course is prescribed by the attending physician; tolerance and compatibility of procedures are monitored under medical supervision!

The therapeutic program is individually tailored, taking into account the type and stage of the disease, features of the clinical presentation, presence of comorbidities, patient's age, mechanisms of physical factors, and their compatibility.

Complex therapy should not be reduced to polypragmasy (simultaneous use of many different procedures), as prescribing numerous treatments may overload the body, exacerbate pathological disturbances, disrupt adaptive systems, and even lead to physio-balance overload or adverse reactions.

Many physiotherapeutic procedures provoke a strong and prolonged response in patients. Therefore, it is not advisable to prescribe several intensive treatments on the same day. The combined effect of strong stimuli may cause various functional disorders in the nervous, cardiovascular, and other systems of the body.

In one day (for a 21-day treatment course), it is advisable to limit to only one of the following procedures: electrophoresis, inductothermy, UHF therapy, microwave therapy, ultrasound, paraffin-ozokerite applications, or radon baths. It is possible to combine ultrasound therapy with radon baths with a 4-hour interval, and massage with balneoprocedures.

Procedures affecting one reflexogenic zone through which a general influence on the body is exerted (such as the occipital, carotid sinus, lumbar zones, nasal mucosa) are incompatible on the same day. Only one general procedure should be prescribed per day; for healthy individuals — no more than two, with a 4–6 hour interval (for a 21–24 day treatment course).

For a single local area, 1–2 therapeutic procedures with optimal interaction can be applied. Thermogly mud therapy and paraffin-ozokerite applications, when applied to reflexogenic zones or large areas, are incompatible with water-based procedures (baths, showers).

When planning complex therapy, particular importance must be given to the compatibility and incompatibility of physiotherapeutic procedures, and to observing the sequence and intervals between them: 20–30 minutes between local procedures, 1–2 hours between local and general procedures, and 4–6 hours between general procedures.

Radon baths can be combined on the same day with pulsed currents (diadynamic therapy, SMT therapy, interferential therapy, electrostimulation).

Radon baths can be combined on different days with galvanization, electrophoresis, UHF, microwave therapy, inductothermy, darsonvalization, magnetotherapy, ultrasound, laser irradiation, and balneotherapy.

In a properly selected physio-balneotherapeutic complex, the positive effects of several physical factors acting in the same direction are combined. The negative impact of individual components is weakened, the treatment affects multiple body systems and aspects of the pathological process, and the after-effect duration of the combined procedures increases.
